Course Overview for TKT Preparation Course

Upon completion of this course, you will have developed the following skills:

Analysis of language skills, systems and elements in student work and classroom applications. Synthesis of lesson planning based on breakdown of components.
Evaluation of course books, supplementary materials and classroom aids for language teaching.
Application of skills and strategies for classroom management.
Critical Thinking, Reading, & Writing The purpose of thinking, reading, and writing critically is to “shape, not merely absorb, knowledge.”

All of the assignments for this course require critical thinking and reading. Your assignments will include:
• Free writes and in-class discussions.
• Group work and peer review sessions.
• Library research and information literacy development.
• Reading assignments and reviews.
• Graded essays.

Collaboration Skills Research shows that students learn more when they actively utilize the information they’re learning. In group work, you will:
• Talk and write about what you learn.
• Respond critically and constructively to others’ ideas.
• Engage in learning rather than passively sit through a lecture.

In order to ensure that your group works well you need to:
• Understand and respond to group dynamics.
• Develop good communication skills.
• Respect other group members and their opinions.
• Pause to evaluate the group’s progress and adjust when necessary.
• Encourage input from all group members.

Part of your group work will include peer reviews, in which you will share your drafts with peers and:
• Receive constructive compliments and criticism on your writing skills.
• Practice clear communication

Plagiarism
Plagiarism includes knowingly “representing, by paraphrase or direct quotation, the published or unpublished work of another person as one’s own in any academic exercise or activity without full and clear acknowledgment. It also includes the unacknowledged use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged in the selling of term papers or other academic materials” (Code of Policies and Procedures for Students). The penalties for plagiarism are severe. They include warning or reprimand, grade adjustment, probation, suspension, expulsion from course.

Organization:

Use of Language:

Lineamientos que deberán seguir los alumnos al escribir ensayos.
Todas los ensayos deberán entregarse en la fecha indicada. No se recibirán trabajos extemporáneos sin penalización.
Los ensayos deberán de tener el nombre del alumno, la fecha y la etapa de cada ensayo y de que se trate en la parte superior izquierda. Se escribirá a renglón seguido y no se usarán puntos en estas tres líneas.
La fecha se escribirá en inglés como se indica: mes, día y año. v.g

El nombre del profesor, el numero del semestre (1st semestre, 2nd semestre etc.) y las siglas UMSNH deberán de escribirse en la parte inferior derecha de la página, a renglón seguido sin punto final.
Los ensayos deberán escribirse a doble espacio tanto entre renglones como entre párrafos.
Al principio de cada párrafo se dejará una sangría usando la tecla TAB.
Los ensayos se escribirán en computadora con letra Times Roman de 12 puntos.
Los márgenes superior e inferior serán de 2.5 cm. y los laterales de 3 cm.
Los márgenes deben de estar alineado a la izquierda.
los ensayos no llevarán portada.
Los ensayos deberán guardarse en un portafolio con su proceso de reflexión.
